ChessWhiz TV: Funday Mondays

Today we learned that reaching the 5th rank increases the chance of death in pawns by over 90%. Catch the recording at http://youtu.be/bJsIo3dv01c.

This week, get your knights to the far corners of the board (a8, h8) in the most awesome way ever. Best submissions will be featured on air next Tuesday, Oct 7, at 3pm GMT.

Have fun!
Getting the knights to the corners was both too easy and too autodefenestrationistic. Watch the replay at http://youtu.be/D7cGX7pKSA4.

This week, same challenge, new twist: how many pieces can you get to the opponent's corner squares, where the enemy rooks begin the game? Good luck!
The "opponent's corner squares" challenge was one of the stupidest we have ever done. You can find the recording at http://youtu.be/Qy_ZkXkuPmM, but I don't recommend that you watch it.

Today, we have just finished the challenge after that: Slow Pawns. Viewers were not permitted to move their pawns two full squares. Catch that episode at http://youtu.be/ekK6iG2iyRU.

Next challenge: Turbo Pawns! You may not play any pawn one square forward on its first move. Example: as White, you may never play a3, b3, c3, d3, e3, f3, g3, or h3 during the game. Good luck!
Turbo Pawns clearly takes more focus than a ChessWhiz can give. Don't believe me? Watch the recording at http://youtu.be/4Zn2sscN0Fw

Next up: Blob Chess. What's the most extreme, amorphous clump of pieces you can arrange during a "normal" game of chess? Send in your submissions, and you might get featured next week!
We got some pretty beautiful blobs today. Someone (hint: me) got all 16 of his pieces onto the 6th and 7th ranks. Beautiful. Catch the recording at http://youtu.be/1dtQPkNhrFo.

This week, Molasses Chess. Send in games where your pieces move a maximum of two squares at a time. Fortunately, this only impacts your bishops, rooks, and queens. For example, a queen on e4 may move to c6, but not to b7 or e7.

Send me your most fabulous games. Good luck!
Molasses Chess, which was promptly renamed to Arm's Reach Chess, turned out to be quite fascinating. With a two-square reach, Rooks, Bishops, and Knights finally have a level playing field. I recommend this trying out this variant. http://youtu.be/AAYrVIG62_M

This week, Grandfather Clock Chess. You may not play 5 moves in a row that do not include moving your King at least once.
Grandfather Clock Chess was certainly interesting. Pick up the recording at http://youtu.be/ix3rqZHFzeM

This week, Black Hole Chess. You may not make any move that ends in one of the center squares: e4, d4, e5, or d5. Can you beat an unsuspecting opponent with this handicap?

Send in your best attempts!
I'm happy to report that today's show was nice and short. :-)

Having a black hole in the middle of the board made for some interesting kingside attacks. Check it out: http://youtu.be/gGuxog0YnGg

This week, Learn! I challenge you to play someone at least 200 points above your rating, and do your best to learn from the game. Send in your best games, and you might be featured in next week's episode!
