takebacks

Takebacks should be relegated to a beginners section. I've made thousands of stupid moves due to my stupidity or a mouse slip, but I didn't ask for a "takeback." I just resigned or played on a piece down or whatever. It's sort of like the touch move rule in over the board which is always in effect unless you're teaching someone to play. Sometimes i get a lower rated player playing a good game and beating me when he makes a dumb move (as we all do) and i think "Whoosh, I'm glad he did that to help me recover." Then he sends me a takeback request and I feel guilty as hell turning him down, because when i do that I feel I'm helping him beat me. If I were on the other side of the board I wouldn't get any satisfaction beating anyone which incorporates a takeback or two.
Buddy I totally agree with your position on take backs. They are nonsense unless you are in a teaching mode. During the game you live with your mistakes, and move on.
There's a personal option to simply disable takebacks during rated games. Of course, then you'll have people sending draw offers every move after they make a mistake instead whenever they can't do a takeback.
I concur. I've made dozens of mouse slips and will play on or resign; however, on the other side I have opponents asking for take backs when making horrendous blunders and/or mouse slips and I feel guilty not to accept. There is no substitute for experience.
I know right! I don't ask for take-backs but if my opponent asks then I'll feel so guilty if I say no so I always say yes.
Half the game is about taking advantage of mistakes. You may seem like a bad person if you turn down takebacks but really it's the most fair deal.

You shouldn't loose because you allow someone else a takeback and then you blunder yourself.

Both players often make several mistakes, the whole game would turn into a whole takeback orgy.
Yes, one of the worst things is a game that was only won (and lost) through a take-back. Unrated games maybe, rated I don't think so.
