About me

I am 22 year-old chess player and coach Mihajlo Matovic, Fide Master. I am student of law at university of Belgrade. If you want to play smarter than you played yesterday you will contact me (by email).

Playing experience

In my youth, I was 6th in the WORLD and vice-CHAMPION in EUROPE in 2011 according to rating list. Many of my youth competitors, of whom I was stronger in rating, equal in rating or almost equal, became top grandmasters, with a rating of over 2600 and over 2700. For example, GM Wei Yi, GM Vladislav Artemev, GM Van Forest Jordeen, GM Sarana Alekei, GM Petrosyan Manuel, GM Sevian Samuel, GM Rambaldi, Francesco, GM Benjamin Gledura, GM Milan Zajić, etc. are now super grandmasters with ratings over 2700 and 2600. For 6 years I played for Partizan from Belgrade (first board), which is still the most trophy-winning in Serbia and the former Yugoslavia. I competed in the European Champions Cup. I also played in the first league in Switzerland, for Sorab from Basel. I played in the Premier League in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I won many open tournaments (for example Open Bačka Palanka).

Other experiences

The mind is certainly primary, but regular physical activity is necessary for excellent concentration. See how world champion Magnus Charleshen is physically ready and active (almost like me). without physical fitness he would never have been a world champion.

Teaching methodology

It is not enough to have great talent, nor to have a nature of genius mind in order to become a genius, realize talent and achieve success. A genius is one who realize his genius mind. Success is in realizing your talent, but know that success makes 5 to 10 percent of talent and about 90 percent of work, learning, coaching. Many have failed because of
a lack of a coach or having the wrong coach or for economic reasons. Since I was 11, in 2011 I was the European runner-up in the rating and 6.
in the world. I'm sure I have the skills , knowledge and psychological abilities to develop and discover talents in others. The vast majority of coaches think that the most important thing is to pass on as much knowledge as possible to students in order for them to achieve success. My view on the effectiveness of coaching is different. I think that the most important thing is to eliminate the shortcomings in the game and prepare the chess players, increase self-confidence and concentration. These problems are psychological in nature, because our character is reflected in the parties and that is how we reflect our shortcomings. Enormous theoretical knowledge is not enough to solve the problem, but neccesery is solve the problem of indecision. This requires intensive and regular solving of certain tests.
In my youth, I was sixth in the world and second in Europe in 2011 according rating list. Many of my youth competitors, of whom I was stronger in rating, equal in rating or almost equal, became top grandmasters, with a rating of over 2600 and over 2700. For example, Wei Yi, Vladislav Artemev, Van Forest Jordeen, Sarana Alekei, Petrosyan Manuel, Rambaldi, Francesco, Benjamin Gledura, Milan Zajić, etc. are now super grandmasters with ratings over 2700 and 2600. For 6 years I played for Partizan from Belgrade (the first board), which is still the most trophy-winning in Serbia and the former Yugoslavia. I competed in the European Champions Cup. I also played in the first league in Switzerland, for Sorab from Basel. I played in the Premier League in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I won many open tournaments(for example Open Bačka Palanka). Since it is certainly unique, I make a plan and program for each student. 1) Students should send me at least 10 games of their game (classic, rapid or blitz) or links to their accounts on chess websites.

2a) I will analyze their games to find common mistakes and base lessons around them. For example lessons can be how to make plan in simple or in complicated position, position estimate based on key factors, basic, intermediate or advanced endgames, tactics, strategy, pawn structure, bad and good pieces, frequent motives, openings...

During the lesson emphasis is put on the thinking process and psychology. I ought to share not only what I think about a certain position, but what chain of thoughts led me to that.

2b) The other option is to play a couple of games with a student and then analyze the games.

3) Everything we do in the class, homework and additional material is given after every class.

I hold lessons via Skype or Zoom and lichess platform.
