Disrespect

> Disrespect

Disrespect is to expect from masters to play just the certain range of openings.
Any player including a master is allowed to play any opening.

Yes. The most striking example I remember was Karpov-Miles, Skara 1980. Miles, a world-class GM, beat the reigning world champion with the black pieces, defending 1.e4 a6 2.d4 b5.

I remember that Miles was accused of "disrespect" at the time in some quarters. But the astonishing result of the game really should put that idea to bed!

@Brian-E It worked for Miles, and as he was the clear underdog, I don't see why this could be perceived as "disrespectful" - Miles clearly had prepared this as a serious surprise weapon.

I can understand that it would be seen as disrespectful in the inverse constellation, though - for example, if a serious player (but without GM title) gets the rare chance to play against the World Champion, and the champion would play the bong cloud because he's bored - that would indeed be disrespectful.
