How to: Get a NM title in 8 months

Hello, my name is Nathan Ballance and I feel like I need to get a NM title within 8 months. I am going to be joining the military, so I realize playing online chess will almost certainly be impossible. Before I leave I would like to get my title, and be satisfied with the knowledge I have learned in chess, thus far. I realize that my knowledge of chess will slowly dissipate over time and would like to utilize the knowledge I know now.
I have played 3 OTB games and I was caught in the opening all 3 games. My record (W:D:L) is 2:0:1. I have a provisional rating of 2205. Is anyone interested in teaching me? I like a variety of openings, but I would like to specialize in d4 openings as white, and the Najdorf Sicilian and Dutch Defense as black.
This is my New Year's Resolution, and you can help me accomplish my goal! Talk to you soon
Dude.. I hate to break it to you. But many people study chess their whole lives and never get even close to the master title.
I see your online rating is around 1900, so you are far far far away from being a master.
How long have you been playing chess, how old are you?
Well, this is account is new. I make tons of new online chess accounts. I prefer playing classical chess online, and I had an online rating of 2200 for classical last time. My rating will go up.
But, I'm 17 and learned chess when I was 14, played for a year, then stopped playing for a year, and then started playing again about a year ago
Ok I read that we have about 8 years of chess progression before we start hitting our limit.
You're young (important for neural plasticity) and only been playing 3 years. Now that I think about it 2200 online standard after only 3 years is pretty impressive...
If you're telling the truth about all this, you have a shot for sure.
Good luck!
Work your butt off and play in alot of OTB tournaments. I wish you the best of luck! I'm close to NM as well, 2170 USCF.
Alright, do either of you have an opinion on chess teachers? I'm wondering if its worth trying to get a chess teacher, or if I should just study as I see fit
@JohnFearDoe Only you can answer your question. If you are capable to study on your own, you don't need a teacher or a coach.
If you need someone to push you forward and make you study, then you require a coach.
You need to read some books, solve puzzles, and most importantly practice by playing online under long time controls.
You should analyse your games (online and over the board)
Then you will do well in over the board tournaments, and eventually get the desired rating. It is a gradual process. It takes time. You need to enjoy playing to spend all the time it takes to become a titled player.
I was very low rated and now I gained some rating. It may be harder to improve once I get ever higher. So, the lower rated you are, the easier it is to raise your rating!
