How about a general chat box for lichessTV?

yep #9 that is why i wrote optional :) there is always gonna be trols and when someone is irritated s/he can close the chat

also there is a kid mode in the settings

and there are chat bots(eg. twitch chats) erasing the swear word and kicking the user from the chat. i don't have any idea how complex coding it
#11, I think on ChessCube they have a chat bot.

If your sentence [phrase] contains a blacklisted word, it's muted to everyone in the room except for you -> that way you think everyone's seeing it.

Similar to muting: if a mod there mutes you in a chat room, you can continue to talk, but nobody can see it.

AutoMod would be useful though, except there's a whole lot of diversity here -> not just eng/french/spanish, etc... languages

There used to be one, was removed precisely for the reason #7 mentioned. No-one talked for days on end, and then one person would post a swear word or something stupid and then there would again be no chat after that. It's a nice idea but doesn't work in theory.

#4, there will never be a plugin dependency for core lichess technology. Flash, not even once. :) (it actually sounds like a drug, wow)"

I don't think you realize how much lichess has grown since that time, i doubt no one will chat if a room was implemented, almost everyday a new topic in the forum is posted, this shows how much the community wants to interact :P
The problem is, if a 'general' chat room is implemented, people will expect it to be moderated. If it isn't moderated to someone's taste, people will blame lichess and get a bad image of the site. I say that because it happened over and over again in the past. And when it is moderated, everyone gets upset about 'stringent moderation'.

That's why I agree with #10 that team chats are a better idea (which are planned). Team chats shift the blame from lichess as a whole to team leaders.
The reason why a chat room is needed is that currently, if someone's not in the mood for chess, he'll have nothing to do in lichess, but with a chat room , it'll be a way to socialize and have fun.
There's already a word filter much more advanced than that one #15. #16, that's a nice idea but again, it would place a huge burden on lichess to keep in order and might give the site a bad image. That's why such a task is better delegated to players via team chat (which should definitely happen at some point).
